Vivienne Ming
Also known as Vivienne L'Ecuyer Ming
Vivienne Ming is a theoretical neuroscientist whose AI work applies machine learning to education, hiring, health, and human-AI collaboration. She graduated from UC San Diego in 2000 with a bachelor's degree and earned a PhD from Carnegie Mellon. Her work spanned AI hiring at Gild, education research at Socos and UC Berkeley, family learning through Muse, and AI projects for postpartum health and human development. In 2026, she published Robot-Proof and a paper on human-AI forecasting; as of October 2026, she is co-founder and CEO of The Human Trust and founding chief scientist at Possibility Sciences, with roles at UCL and UC Berkeley's Neurotech Collider Lab.

-
2013
Machine learning for hiring
In 2013, she is a co-founder of Socos and chief scientist at Gild, where machine learning predicts candidates for technology jobs. Socos uses student work to model learning and personalize instruction.
-
April 2015
Research at Berkeley's Redwood Center
By April 2015, she is a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley's Redwood Center, researching cognitive prosthetics, and managing partner at Socos. The company applies cognitive models to align education with life outcomes.

2017
BBC 100 Women
She joins the BBC 100 Women list in 2017.
-
2021
Muse for family learning
In 2021, she is executive chair of Socos Labs and uses AI to predict manic episodes, help children with seizure disorders and reduce bias in hiring. Muse uses machine learning to send parents and children targeted play-based activities each day.
-
2024–2025
AI for postpartum health
In 2024, her Dionysus Health startup announces a biological test that combines epigenetics with AI to predict postpartum-depression risk before delivery. Her 2025 Human Tapestry Initiative proposes an AI foundation model that pairs biological and behavioral data to study human development.
-
2026
Robot-Proof and hybrid intelligence
In March 2026, she publishes Robot-Proof: When Machines Have All the Answers, Build Better People, a book about people in an automated world. Her July 2026 paper on human-AI forecasting links successful collaboration to perspective-taking, intellectual humility and curiosity.
-
As of October 2026
Leading the Human Trust
As of October 2026, she is co-founder and CEO of The Human Trust, which is building a foundation model for human development, and founding chief scientist at Possibility Sciences. She is also a theoretical neuroscientist, honorary professor at UCL's Global Business School for Health, and chair of UC Berkeley's Neurotech Collider Lab.
