Sture Allén

Sture Allén was a Swedish linguist who brought computers into the study of Swedish texts and founded Språkbanken. His 1965 thesis applied a computer-supported method to seventeenth-century letters, and in 1972 he became a professor of computational linguistics in Gothenburg. As Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy from 1986 to 1999, he led dictionary and classics projects and helped move Swedish dictionary work onto computers. He died in 2022 at age 93; his computer-supported work underpins the svenska.se portal and the SAOL app.
