Also known as Algebraic Sofia

Sofia Rodrigues is a Research Software Engineer who builds with Lean, a proof assistant used by the AI theorem prover Aristotle. In September 2023, she built a Lean 4 backend for Rinha de Backend and libraries for HTTP requests, servers, web frameworks and JSON parsing. She moved from Idris to Lean 4 in October 2023, discussed it on a November 2023 podcast, and joined Lean FRO during its first year. She presented Lean's language and standard library in 2025 and 2026. As of October 2026, she is a Research Software Engineer at Lean FRO.

    A Lean 4 backend

    In September 2023, she builds an API for Rinha de Backend in Lean 4, creating Lina, an HTTP parser; Melp, a server library; Ash, a web framework; and Soda, a parser combinator library.

  2. October 2023

    From Idris to Lean 4

    In October 2023, she moves from Idris to Lean 4, calls it her preferred theorem prover, and uses it for proofs, an HTTP server and a PostgreSQL client.

  3. November 2023

    A Lean podcast interview

    In November 2023, she joins Elixir em Foco with Gabrielle Guimarães de Oliveira to discuss Lean and their choice to enter Rinha de Backend with a Lean and C++ solution.

  4. August 2024

    Lean FRO's first year

    By August 2024, she is one of eleven people Lean FRO hires during its first year. Lean advances proof automation for software verification.

  5. June 2025

    The LEAN Language

    In June 2025, she gives “The LEAN Language,” an online talk through Esquenta SE4FP on the Lean programming language and theorem prover. She is a Research Software Engineer at Lean FRO.

  6. November 2025

    Lean at GambiConf

    At GambiConf in November 2025, she presents “LEAN Fullstack: Codando no Assistente de Provas,” describing recent Lean standard-library advances. She describes Lean as a proof assistant and a practical programming tool.

  7. January 2026

    A standard-library talk

    In January 2026, she presents “What’s new in the Lean standard library” with Markus Himmel at Lean Together. The program also lists Aristotle as an AI theorem prover that uses Lean.
