Rishi Mehta
Rishi Mehta is an AI researcher whose work links deep learning with formal mathematics. Before Google DeepMind, he worked on Google’s search-ranking algorithm; in 2024, he co-led AlphaProof, which combined with AlphaGeometry 2 to solve four of six IMO problems at silver-medal level. He explained AlphaProof’s Lean tactics, tested how GPT-4o, Gemini and Claude handle an unbiased-coin prompt, and built Chorus, a browser extension for comparing LLM answers. In 2025, he wrote about AI models at the IMO and coauthored a Nature paper on AlphaProof; as of October 2026, he researches agentic coding at Anthropic.

Deep learning for Google Search
Before his 2024 AlphaProof work at Google DeepMind, he works on improving Google’s search-ranking algorithm with deep learning.
-
2024
AlphaProof at the IMO
In 2024, he co-leads AlphaProof, a reinforcement-learning system for formal mathematics, with Thomas Hubert and Laurent Sartran. With AlphaGeometry 2, the systems solve four of six IMO problems and reach silver-medal level.
-
November 2024
Explaining AlphaProof’s Lean tactics
In November 2024, he explains ideas behind AlphaProof’s solutions for IMO problems 1, 2 and 6 by unpacking the Lean tactics used in their proofs.
-
December 2024
Testing LLM coin flips
In December 2024, he tests GPT-4o, Gemini 1.5 Pro and Claude 3.5 Sonnet with an unbiased-coin prompt; all three favor heads in his results.
-
January 2025
Building the Chorus extension
In January 2025, he writes Chorus, a Chrome extension that sends one prompt to several LLMs in their native browser interfaces. It supports Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek.
-
August 2025
A 2025 IMO results review
In August 2025, he writes about AI models trying the IMO and weighs their results. He judges Google DeepMind’s claim the most credible because the IMO externally vets its proofs.
-
November 2025
A Nature paper on proof search
In November 2025, he coauthors a Nature paper that presents AlphaProof as a reinforcement-learning agent trained on millions of auto-formalized problems to find formal proofs.
-
As of October 2026
Research at Anthropic
As of October 2026, he is a researcher at Anthropic, working on making LLMs better at agentic coding.
