Researcher

Thomas Hubert

Thomas Hubert is a researcher at Google DeepMind, where his work spans game-playing AI and mathematical reasoning. Trained as an engineer at École Centrale Paris, he later completed a master's in financial mathematics at Stanford University. He co-authored AlphaGo Zero, which Nature published in October 2017, and worked on the AlphaZero project, whose chess and shogi paper went to arXiv in December 2017. MuZero, a system that plans with a learned model, and AlphaTensor, a system for faster matrix multiplication, are two more systems he helped build. He led AlphaProof's development with Rishi Mehta and Laurent Sartran, and the system solved three of five non-geometry problems at the 2024 International Mathematical Olympiad.
