Researcher

Raaz Dwivedi

Also known as Raaz RSK Dwivedi

Raaz Dwivedi is a researcher whose work spans causal inference, reinforcement learning, and AI agents for sequential decision-making. He studied electrical engineering at IIT Bombay, completed an EECS Ph.D. at UC Berkeley, and held a FODSI postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard and MIT. At Cornell, he researches AI agents for sequential decision-making and co-founded Traversal, which builds an AI agent for software reliability. His research includes counterfactual inference for adaptive experiments and ORCA-bench for on-call coding agents; he won the 2024 Blackwell-Rosenbluth Award. As of October 2026, he is an assistant professor in Cornell’s Operations Research and Information Engineering department, on leave, and a Traversal co-founder.

Timeline

  1. 2010–2014

    Electrical engineering at IIT Bombay

He studies electrical engineering at IIT Bombay from 2010 to 2014, with Vivek Borkar as his thesis adviser, and earns a B.Tech.

  2. 2015–2021

    A Berkeley doctorate

From 2015 to 2021, he completes a Ph.D. in EECS at UC Berkeley, co-advised by Martin Wainwright and Bin Yu.

  3. 2021–2023

    FODSI postdoctoral fellowship

From 2021 to 2023, he holds a FODSI postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard and MIT’s Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS), co-advised by Susan Murphy and Devavrat Shah.

  4. 2022

    Counterfactual inference in sequential experiments

In 2022, he coauthors “Counterfactual inference in sequential experiments,” which develops inference guarantees for unit-level counterfactual means in adaptive treatment experiments.

  5. January 2024

    Cornell assistant professor

In January 2024, he joins Cornell’s Department of Operations Research and Information Engineering and Cornell Tech as an assistant professor. His research spans causal inference and reinforcement learning, with a focus on AI agents for sequential decision-making.

  6. 2024

    Blackwell-Rosenbluth Award

In 2024, he wins the Blackwell-Rosenbluth Award, given to outstanding junior researchers in Bayesian statistics.

  7. June 2025

    Co-founding Traversal

In June 2025, he co-founds Traversal, an AI startup for detecting and resolving software outages. The company raises a $48 million seed and Series A round.

  8. July 2026

    ORCA-bench for on-call agents

In July 2026, he coauthors ORCA-bench, a benchmark for general-purpose coding agents in production-style on-call work. It pairs 1,079 root-cause-analysis tasks with six days of metrics, logs, and traces from a simulated microservice system, with full application source access.

  9. As of October 2026

    Cornell and Traversal roles

As of October 2026, he is an assistant professor in Cornell’s Department of Operations Research and Information Engineering and is on leave. He is also a co-founder of Traversal, whose AI Site Reliability Engineer automates root-cause identification and remediation for production and software outages.
