Ngoc Thanh Nguyen

Ngoc Thanh Nguyen is a researcher in computational collective intelligence, knowledge integration and data mining. He earned a PhD in 1990 and completed his habilitation in 2002. Poland granted him the State Professor title and ACM named him a Distinguished Scientist in 2009; he also founded ACIIDS, an Asian conference series on intelligent information and database systems. His 2022 book, Knowledge Integration Methods for Probabilistic Knowledge-based Systems, was among the winners of the Zdzisław Pawlak award for an outstanding computer-science monograph, and he won election to a second term on Poland's Council of Scientific Excellence in 2023. In 2025, he co-chaired IEEE SMC's Technical Committee on Computational Collective Intelligence, and as of October 2026, he heads the Department of Applied Informatics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

    He founds the Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS), a conference series held across Asian countries since 2009. In March 2016, its seventh edition takes place in Da Nang, with Wrocław University of Science and Technology as co-organizer and Nguyen as its main originator.

    The Zdzisław Pawlak award

    In the 2022 edition, the Informatics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences names Knowledge Integration Methods for Probabilistic Knowledge-based Systems one of the winners of the Zdzisław Pawlak award for an outstanding monograph in computer science. Nguyen coauthors the book with Van Tham Nguyen and Trong Hieu Tran.

    In 2023, he wins election to a second term on Poland's Council of Scientific Excellence for 2024–2027.

    In 2025, he co-chairs IEEE SMC's Technical Committee on Computational Collective Intelligence. The committee co-organizes the 17th International Conference on Computational Collective Intelligence (ICCCI 2025).
