Musti Narasimha Murty
Also known as M. Narasimha Murty, M. N. Murty
Musti Narasimha Murty is a computer scientist at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore whose research covers pattern recognition, data clustering and data mining. Born in 1954, he earned his BE, ME and PhD at IISc, worked as a project leader in industry, and joined its Department of Computer Science and Automation as a research associate, then assistant and associate professor. In 1999 he coauthored the ACM Computing Surveys article Data clustering: a review with Jain and Flynn, and in 2003 he led the team that won task 1 of the KDD Cup. He wrote textbooks with Susheela Devi, including Pattern Recognition: An Algorithmic Approach in 2011, became a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, in 2011, and received an IISc Distinguished Alumni Award in 2022. Today he is an Honorary Professor at IISc, where his earlier posts included Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
