Kaloyan Aleksiev
Also known as Kaloyan Alekiev, kallyaleksiev
Kaloyan Aleksiev is an AI lab leader and researcher whose work spans multimodal models, evaluation and AI for scientific discovery. He coauthored the 2024 Reka Core, Flash and Edge report and the Vibe-Eval benchmark, and worked at Microsoft and Reka AI, with earlier affiliations at the University of Oxford. In 2025, he co-founded Inherent, a London research lab that emerged from stealth with a $50m seed round in May 2026; its founders' manifesto calls for a new kind of research institution and AI for machine-driven scientific inquiry. As of October 2026, he is Inherent's co-founder and CTO, and his research includes Faraday, a 27B-parameter AI Scientist agent for paper replication.
Timeline
-
April 2024
The Reka Core report
In April 2024, he coauthors Reka's technical report on Core, Flash and Edge, multimodal language models trained from scratch to process and reason with text, images, video and audio inputs.
-
May 2024
The Vibe-Eval benchmark
In May 2024, he coauthors Vibe-Eval, an open benchmark and framework for multimodal chat models, with 269 visual-understanding prompts, including 100 hard prompts with expert-authored gold responses.
-
2025
Co-founding Inherent
In 2025, he co-founds Inherent with Tantum Collins, Edward Hughes and Louis Kirsch, a London AI research lab building general-purpose inventive AI to accelerate scientific discovery.
-
By 2026
Microsoft and Reka AI
By 2026, he brings infrastructure experience from his work at Microsoft and Reka AI to Inherent. His earlier affiliations include the University of Oxford.
-
May 2026
Inherent emerges from stealth
In May 2026, Inherent emerges from stealth with a $50m seed round co-led by Index Ventures and Radical Ventures. Its founders, Tantum Collins, Edward Hughes, Louis Kirsch and Kaloyan Aleksiev, publish the manifesto "Living within the Experiment", which calls for a new kind of research institution and a new kind of AI for machine-driven science.
-
August 2026
Faraday and paper replication
In August 2026, he coauthors "Training AI Scientists to Replicate Research", which introduces Replica, a task space for paper replication, and Faraday, a 27B-parameter AI Scientist agent that uses coding agents as tools. The paper reports that Faraday surpasses Claude Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.5 on held-out replication tasks.
-
As of October 2026
CTO of Inherent
As of October 2026, he is Inherent's co-founder and CTO. The London-based public-benefit AI research lab builds general-purpose inventive AI to accelerate scientific discovery.
