K. P. Soman
Also known as Soman Kotti Padannayil
Soman is the Dean of the Amrita School of Artificial Intelligence in Coimbatore, with books and papers that run from data mining, kernel methods and wavelets to deep learning for stock prices and cyber security. He earned a PhD at IIT Kharagpur, worked there as a scientific officer at the Reliability Engineering Centre, and joined Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, where he heads the Centre for Excellence in Computational Engineering and Networking established in 2003. PHI Learning published his Insight into Data Mining in 2006, Machine Learning with SVM and other Kernel Methods in 2009 and Insight into Wavelets in 2010. In 2017 and 2018 he co-wrote deep-learning papers on stock prediction, and in 2018 and 2019 he co-authored cyber security work with Vinayakumar R, among it an arXiv survey and the IEEE Access paper on intelligent intrusion detection. Stanford's lists of the world's top 2% scientists included him in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
