Researcher

Junaid Qadir

Junaid Qadir is a computer engineer whose papers apply machine learning to networking, security and healthcare, and whose later work centers on human-centered AI and AI ethics. After a PhD at the University of New South Wales in 2008, he won Pakistan's Higher Education Commission Best University Teacher Award for 2012–2013 and joined the Information Technology University in Lahore in December 2015. Surveys from 2017 to 2020, each with Ala Al-Fuqaha among the coauthors, covered unsupervised learning for networking, adversarial attacks on cognitive networks and secure machine learning for healthcare. In 2020, a project proposal of his won an award from the Facebook Research Ethics in AI Initiative for the Asia Pacific, and in 2023 he won the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Prize Paper Award. He is a professor of computer engineering at Qatar University and an IEEE Education Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2025–2026.
