Jiye Liang
Also known as 梁吉业, Liang Jiye
Jiye Liang is a computer scientist at Shanxi University whose work on multi-granularity data modeling and graph data mining made him an IEEE Fellow in the class of 2025. He earned a bachelor's degree at Shanxi University in 1983 and a master's and PhD at Xi'an Jiaotong University, then did postdoctoral research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Computing Technology from 2002 to 2004. His funded projects moved from rough set theory and granular computing to cognitive computing under China's New Generation Artificial Intelligence program, and in 2024 he coauthored the Graph External Attention Enhanced Transformer, presented at ICML. Alongside research, he served as president of Taiyuan Normal University and as vice president of Shanxi University, and he is a fellow of the China Computer Federation and the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. Today he chairs the Shanxi University Academic Committee and directs its Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence and Chinese Information Processing.

Degrees from Shanxi and Xi'an Jiaotong
He graduates from Shanxi University with a bachelor's degree in 1983. Graduate study at Xi'an Jiaotong University follows, with a master's degree in 1990 and a PhD in 2001.
-
2002–2005
A CAS postdoc and rough sets
From 2002 to 2004, he does postdoctoral research at the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Between 2003 and 2005, he leads a National Natural Science Foundation of China project on uncertainty, fuzziness and knowledge acquisition in rough set theory.
-
2007–2019
Granular computing for complex data
He leads a national 863 Program project on granular computing theory and algorithms for high-dimensional complex data from 2007 to 2009. A key National Natural Science Foundation of China project on granular computing theory and methods for big data runs under his direction from 2015 to 2019.
-
2014
President of Taiyuan Normal University
As president of Taiyuan Normal University, he signs a memorandum of understanding with Brandon University in Manitoba, Canada, in November 2014, covering partnership opportunities such as student and faculty exchanges.
-
2020–2024
A New Generation AI project
From November 2020 to October 2024, he leads a project on the basic theory and methods of cognitive computing in China's Science and Technology Innovation 2030 New Generation Artificial Intelligence major program.
-
2024
The GEAET graph transformer
With Jianqing Liang and Min Chen, he coauthors the Graph External Attention Enhanced Transformer (GEAET) at ICML in 2024. Its attention mechanism uses external node and edge key-value units to capture correlations between graphs.
-
2025
An IEEE fellowship
He joins the IEEE Fellow class of 2025 evaluated by the Computational Intelligence Society, cited for contributions to multi-granularity data modeling and graph data mining.
