Haibin Ling
Also known as H E Ling, H Ling, H. Ling, H.S. Ling
Haibin Ling is a computer-vision researcher whose work spans visual tracking, augmented reality, medical imaging and AI for science. He earned a mathematics B.S. and a computer-science M.S. at Peking University, then completed a computer-science PhD at Maryland. His 2003 paper on thumbnail cropping used saliency and face detection to make small images easier to recognize; he also received ACM UIST's Best Student Paper Award in 2003. Before joining Stony Brook in 2019, he worked at UCLA, Microsoft Research Asia, Siemens and Temple, and received an NSF CAREER Award in 2014. Since 2025, he is a Chair Professor in Westlake University's Department of Artificial Intelligence, where he works in the Intelligent Computing and Application Lab.
