Fumitaka Kimura
Also known as 木村 文隆
Fumitaka Kimura is a pattern-recognition researcher whose work spans handwriting recognition and optical character recognition. He coauthored Chinese-character recognition and writer-adaptive handwriting methods in the late 1980s, then worked on factory steel-plate OCR, Devanagari handwriting and video text recognition. The International Association for Pattern Recognition named him a Fellow in 2010, and he shared the 2015 MVA Best Poster Award for camera-based OCR. In 2020, he coauthored a dynamic-programming system for Indian postal addresses at Mie University’s Graduate School of Engineering.
