Essam Wisam

Also known as Essam Wisam Fouad Amin Abdelghany

Essam Wisam is a computer engineer and AI researcher whose work spans Julia software for class imbalance and question answering over knowledge graphs. He graduated at the top of Cairo University's computer engineering class in 2023 and created Imbalance.jl through Julia's Google Summer of Code. After a deep learning internship at Dstny Engage, he joined DFKI as a research assistant. In 2024 he coauthored a Journal of Open Source Software paper on Imbalance.jl, and in September 2026 he coauthored KGVoyager, an agentic system that generates SPARQL from natural language questions. As of October 2026, he is a PhD student in UT Arlington's IDIR lab under Chengkai Li, with interests in natural language processing, large language models, and self-supervised learning.
