Researcher

Emiliano Lorini

Emiliano Lorini is a CNRS senior research director at IRIT, where he develops logical models of agents’ beliefs and cognitive attitudes. He completed a doctorate in cognitive sciences at the University of Siena in 2007 and joined CNRS in 2009 after postdoctoral work in Toulouse. His formalizations of desire, intention, and emotions earned him the 2014 CNRS bronze medal; later papers developed belief-base semantics and logics for changing cognitive attitudes. At PFIA in 2025, he co-led IRIT’s LILaC team and called for logical languages and reasoning and planning algorithms for conversational agents. He became a EurAI Fellow in 2026 for contributions to the logical and philosophical foundations of agency in AI.

Timeline

  1. 2007–2009

    A doctorate and CNRS appointment

He earns a doctorate in cognitive sciences from the University of Siena in 2007. After postdoctoral work in Toulouse, he joins CNRS in 2009.

  2. 2014

    A CNRS bronze medal

In 2014, he receives the CNRS bronze medal for formalizing desire, intention, and emotions.
