Christopher Clark
Also known as Chris Clark
Christopher Clark is a senior research scientist at Ai2 who leads its open-ecosystem multimodal team. He trained neural networks to play Go, worked on contextual word representations, and coauthored BoolQ, Unified-IO, and the Molmo model family. The Molmo and PixMo paper received a CVPR 2025 Best Paper Honorable Mention. He earned a PhD at the University of Washington under Luke Zettlemoyer in 2020.

Timeline
-
2015
Predoctoral work and Go
In 2015 Clark completes Ai2’s Predoctoral Young Investigators program. With Amos Storkey, he trains deep convolutional networks to predict expert Go moves; their networks defeat GNU Go and win some games against Fuego.
-
2018–2019
Language representations and BoolQ
In 2018 Clark and coauthors introduce deep contextualized word representations that model syntax, semantics, and context-dependent word use. In 2019 he coauthors BoolQ, a reading-comprehension dataset of naturally occurring yes-or-no questions.
-
2020
Ai2’s computer-vision team
Clark earns a PhD from the University of Washington under Luke Zettlemoyer in 2020. He completes Ai2’s Young Investigators program in 2020 before becoming a full-time research scientist on its computer-vision team.
-
2022
Unified-IO across tasks
In 2022 Clark coauthors Unified-IO, a model that combines computer vision, image generation, vision-language, and natural-language tasks in one system.
-
2023
Unified-IO 2 and multimodality
In 2023 Clark coauthors Unified-IO 2, an autoregressive model that understands and generates images, text, audio, and action.
-
2024
Open Molmo and PixMo
In 2024 Clark coauthors Molmo, a family of open vision-language models, and PixMo, a collection of open image datasets for model training.
-
2025
CVPR Best Paper Honorable Mention
In 2025 CVPR gives the Molmo and PixMo paper a Best Paper Honorable Mention. Clark is one of its authors.
-
As of October 2026
Leading Ai2’s multimodal team
As of October 2026 Clark is a senior research scientist at Ai2 and leads its open-ecosystem multimodal team. He coauthors Molmo2, an open vision-language model for video understanding and point-driven grounding.
