Researcher

Chirag Shah

Chirag Shah studies fairer search and recommendation systems and how AI agents can support users. He earned an MTech in computer science and engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in 2002 and described Coagmento, a collaborative information seeking system, in a 2011 case study. In 2019, he joined the University of Washington Information School as an associate professor, and InfoSeeking Lab moved there from Rutgers with him. He received the IEEE Award for Pioneering Leadership in Trustworthy AI in 2024 and co-authored Agents Are Not Enough with Ryen White, which proposed an ecosystem of agents, Sims and Assistants. He joined the SIGIR Academy in 2025 and began talks on humanity and AI in 2026; as of October 2026, he is a UW Information School professor who directs InfoSeeking Lab and co-directs RAISE.
