C. Sue Price

Also known as Sue Price

Sue Price is an information systems researcher and lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal whose work applies agent-based models and Bayesian networks to decisions in sugarcane supply chains and health monitoring. She coauthored studies on pulp-mill harvest scheduling in 2010, sugarcane transport in 2014, and growers’ adaptive decisions in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, she coauthored a study of student use of on-campus wireless networks; in 2022, she coauthored work on a wearable ECG health agent and a cognitive architecture for sugarcane growers. As of October 2026, she is a lecturer at UKZN’s Westville campus and pursues a PhD on an agent-based model of growers’ pre-harvest burning decisions.

Timeline

  1. 2010

    Harvest scheduling at pulp mills

In 2010, she coauthors a study on reducing pulp-mill wood variation by including wood properties in harvest scheduling decisions.

  2. 2014

    Agent-based simulation at mill scale

In 2014, she coauthors a paper that uses agent-based simulation to explore sugarcane supply-chain transport complexities at mill scale.

  3. 2018

    A network for pre-harvest burning

In 2018, she coauthors a dynamic Bayesian decision network paper that represents growers’ adaptive pre-harvest burning decisions in a sugarcane supply chain.

  4. 2019

    Uncertain decisions for sugarcane growers

At the South African Forum for Artificial Intelligence Research in 2019, she coauthors a paper on modelling uncertain adaptive decisions for KwaZulu-Natal sugarcane growers.

  5. 2021

    Student use of wireless networks

In 2021, she coauthors a paper analyzing students’ use of on-campus wireless networks by residence type, presented at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Computing and Data Communication Systems (icABCD).

  6. April 2022

    A personal health agent

In April 2022, she coauthors a paper proposing a personal health agent that uses wearable ECG data to monitor heart activity and explain readings, with a focus on atrial fibrillation.

  7. July 2022

    A cognitive agent architecture

In July 2022, she and three coauthors publish a cognitive model of sugarcane growers’ daily decisions, combining a Belief-Desire-Intention architecture with a dynamic decision network.

  8. As of October 2026

    Lecturer at UKZN

As of October 2026, she is a lecturer in Information Systems and Technology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Westville campus. She holds a BSc Honours in Computer Science from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MSc in Computer Science from UKZN. She is pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at UKZN on an agent-based model of growers’ pre-harvest burning decisions in a KwaZulu-Natal sugarcane supply chain.
