Bruno Zamborlin

Bruno Zamborlin is an AI researcher whose work connects machine learning with music and human-computer interaction. He studied computer science in Italy, worked on gesture recognition at IRCAM, and completed a joint computer-science PhD between IRCAM and Goldsmiths. Mogees maps vibrations from everyday objects to musical notes; HyperSurfaces uses sensors and algorithms to make physical surfaces respond to touch. He led AI at Musixmatch in 2025 and is scheduled to represent the company at a Music Tech Summit panel in October 2026.

Timeline

  1. 2011

    Mogees reads vibration

In 2011, he develops Mogees with IRCAM's Real-Time Musical Interactions team and Goldsmiths. A microphone and vibration analysis let the device turn gestures on everyday surfaces into musical notes.

  2. 2012

    A research prize

In 2012, he shares the Prix Jeune Chercheur Science et Musique with Lionel Feugère.

  3. 2012–2014

    Building Mogees

After studying computer science in Italy, he works at IRCAM on Gesture Follower and pursues a joint PhD in Arts and Computer Science with Goldsmiths' Embodied AudioVisual Group and IRCAM's Real-Time Musical Interactions team. His first Mogees prototype video appears in 2012. By 2014, the project is his full-time activity and uses machine learning to infer object interactions and choose notes.

  4. By 2016

    A computer-science PhD

By 2016, he has completed a computer-science PhD between IRCAM and Goldsmiths and leads Mogees as its founder and CEO. The product combines contact microphones, machine learning, and audio physical modeling to turn objects into musical instruments.

  5. 2024

    HyperSurfaces senses touch

In 2024, he is an AI researcher whose work explores human-computer interaction with physical surfaces. His startups include HyperSurfaces and HyperSentience; HyperSurfaces combines vibration sensors with algorithms to detect touches, footsteps, and atmospheric events, then turn them into sound, light, and data.

  6. 2025–2026

    Leading AI at Musixmatch

In 2025, he leads AI at Musixmatch and is an honorary research fellow at Goldsmiths. In October 2026, he is scheduled to represent Musixmatch on a Music Tech Summit panel about startup growth across the US and Europe.
