Avinash Kak
Also known as Avi Kak
Avinash Kak is a Purdue professor whose research spans computer vision, robotics, image reconstruction and software search. He studied at the University of Madras and IIT Delhi before joining Purdue's faculty in 1971. With Rosenfeld, he coauthored Digital Picture Processing in 1982 and helped introduce SART for image reconstruction. His later work included vision-guided robot navigation, clinical image retrieval and software bug localization. As of October 2026, he is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Purdue; in April 2026, he updated DLStudio, a platform for teaching the university's Deep Learning class.
