Anshu Bhardwaj
Anshu Bhardwaj is a researcher whose computational work spans disease-associated genetic variation, tuberculosis drug discovery and antimicrobial resistance. She completed a Life Sciences Ph.D. at Hyderabad's Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2008, with a thesis on prioritizing single nucleotide polymorphisms as potential biomarkers. Connect to Decode used crowdsourced curation to map tuberculosis protein interactions; her 2017 and 2020 papers explored computational tools for tuberculosis drug discovery. She received the SERB Early Career Research Award in 2017, led the MitoInfect host-pathogen project from 2022 to 2025, and coauthored ARKbase 1.0 in 2025. As of October 2026, she is an Associate Research Fellow at RBCDSAI and a Principal Scientist at CSIR-IMTech.
Timeline
-
2008
A Life Sciences PhD
She earns a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad in 2008. Her thesis prioritizes single nucleotide polymorphisms in disease-association studies to identify potential biomarkers.
-
2012
Connect to Decode
In 2012, she coauthors the Connect to Decode study as a lead PI in the Open Source Drug Discovery project. She conceives and implements crowdsourcing for the effort; the study reports a manually curated Mycobacterium tuberculosis interactome with 1,434 proteins and 2,575 functional relationships.
-
2017
MPDS-TB diagnostic suite
In 2017, she coauthors “Assessing therapeutic potential of molecules: molecular property diagnostic suite for tuberculosis,” a study of the Molecular Property Diagnostic Suite for tuberculosis (MPDS-TB).
-
2017
SERB Early Career Research Award
In 2017, she receives the SERB Early Career Research Award.
-
2020
Hybrid pharmacophore models
In 2020, she coauthors a study reporting a dynamic hybrid pharmacophore model (DHPM), which represents interaction features from different binding pockets. The authors screen novel compounds against Mtb-DapB with the model for anti-tuberculosis drug discovery.
-
2022–2025
MitoInfect project
From 2022 to 2025, she serves as principal investigator for MitoInfect at CSIR-IMTech, a project on mitochondria-associated host-pathogen interactions.
-
2025
ARKbase for antimicrobial resistance
She coauthors ARKbase 1.0 in 2025, an antimicrobial-resistance knowledgebase at CSIR-IMTech. The site invites community contributions of machine-learning models for AMR prediction or prioritization.
-
As of October 2026
Associate Research Fellow and Principal Scientist
As of October 2026, she is an Associate Research Fellow at RBCDSAI and a Principal Scientist at the Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR).
