Alexandros Potamianos
Also known as Alex Potamianos, Potamianos Alex
Alexandros Potamianos is an associate professor at the National Technical University of Athens whose research spans AI, speech processing and multimodal dialogue. He earned an electrical and computer engineering diploma at NTUA in 1990, an engineering sciences master's degree at Harvard in 1991, a PhD there in 1995, and an MBA at NYU in 2002. His career took him through research posts at Harvard and Georgia Tech and technical roles at AT&T and Bell Labs, where he led the DARPA Communicator spoken dialogue team. He coauthored a 2002 paper on conversational interfaces for children that received a 2005 IEEE Signal Processing Society award, co-edited a 2008 book on multimodal processing and joined NTUA as an associate professor in 2013. IEEE elected him a Fellow in 2016, and ISCA elected him a Fellow in 2023 for contributions to human-centered speech, multimodal signal analysis and conversational technologies.
