Pamela Vagata
Pamela Vagata is an engineer and investor whose career follows the infrastructure of modern machine learning. She developed FBLearner Flow, Facebook's production machine learning infrastructure, and in December 2015 OpenAI listed her among its founding members. At Stripe she worked from 2016 to 2019, finishing as AI tech lead, and in April 2019 she presented a deep learning approach to fraud detection at the O'Reilly Artificial Intelligence Conference in New York. In 2021 she became a founding partner of the venture firm Pebblebed, where she is Managing Partner and co-founder. Her March 2026 essay "The Internet Will Have More Agents Than Humans" argues that AI agents will need new infrastructure for identity, memory, reputation, and trust.

2016–2019
AI tech lead at Stripe
Stripe takes her on as a software engineer in 2016, and she leaves in 2019 as an AI tech lead. At a Stripe Girl Geek dinner in December 2017, she gives the talk "Learning Representations Of Merchants" on applying NLP techniques to non-textual data to learn vector representations for Stripe's merchants.

April 2019
Fraud detection without feature engineering
In April 2019, she presents "Fraud detection without feature engineering" at the O'Reilly Artificial Intelligence Conference in New York. Stripe's deep learning model, trained on raw behavioral data, outperforms its feature-engineered fraud model on predictive performance and in the effort spent on data engineering and maintenance.

2021
Co-founding Pebblebed
In 2021, she becomes a founding partner at the venture capital firm Pebblebed. Her colleagues on the Pebblebed team include Keith Adams, who founded Facebook AI Research.
-
December 2023
Milken Institute summit panel
In December 2023, she joins the panel "Powering Investments: From Algorithm to Alpha" at the Milken Institute Middle East and Africa Summit 2023. She appears as the founder of Pebblebed, the early-stage venture firm that invests in AI technology.

March 2026
An essay on agent infrastructure
In March 2026, she publishes the Pebblebed essay "The Internet Will Have More Agents Than Humans". It argues that if agent populations exceed human populations, the internet needs new infrastructure for identity, memory, reputation, and trust.

As of October 2026
Managing Partner at Pebblebed
She is Managing Partner and co-founder of Pebblebed, a San Francisco venture firm that leads about 20 investments per fund. Its companies include KREA, OpenMind, Orchid, Zeromatter, and Lemurian Labs.
