Oscar Täckström
Oscar Täckström is a natural language processing researcher whose work runs from cross-lingual parsing to enterprise AI. At SICS and Uppsala University, he was first author of a 2012 paper on cross-lingual word clusters, and in 2013 he was one of thirteen authors of "Universal Dependency Annotation for Multilingual Parsing", which won the ACL Test-of-Time Paper Award in 2023. He coauthored "A Decomposable Attention Model for Natural Language Inference" in 2016 and "Scaling Autoregressive Video Models" in 2019. After AI research work at Google and Inceptive, he became chief scientist of the Swedish AI company Sana in July 2024, and in January 2026 he wrote about Sweden's AI sector for Fortune after Workday bought Sana for $1.1 billion. He is a founder of Fermi, a software startup in Stockholm that he started with Fredrik Strömsten.

2012
Cross-lingual word clusters
At SICS and Uppsala University, he is first author of "Cross-lingual Word Clusters for Direct Transfer of Linguistic Structure" at NAACL 2012, written with Ryan McDonald and Jakob Uszkoreit of Google. Adding cross-lingual cluster features reduces the relative error of delexicalized dependency parsers by up to 13% and improves named-entity recognizers by up to 26%.

2013
Universal dependency annotation
He is one of thirteen authors of "Universal Dependency Annotation for Multilingual Parsing", a short paper at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2013. His coauthors include Ryan McDonald, Joakim Nivre and Slav Petrov.

2016
A decomposable attention model
With Ankur P. Parikh, Dipanjan Das and Jakob Uszkoreit, he coauthors "A Decomposable Attention Model for Natural Language Inference" for EMNLP 2016. The model uses attention to split the problem into subproblems solved separately, and it reaches state-of-the-art results on the SNLI dataset with almost an order of magnitude fewer parameters than previous work.

2019
Scaling autoregressive video models
In June 2019, he, Dirk Weissenborn and Jakob Uszkoreit post "Scaling Autoregressive Video Models", written for ICLR 2020. The paper shows that autoregressive video generation models based on three-dimensional self-attention reach competitive results on benchmark datasets.

2023
ACL Test-of-Time Paper Award
The ACL gives its 2023 Test-of-Time Paper Award to the 2013 paper "Universal Dependency Annotation for Multilingual Parsing", and he is one of its thirteen authors.

Chief scientist at Sana
In July 2024, he joins the Swedish AI company Sana as chief scientist. He arrives after AI research work at Google and Inceptive.

2025–2026
A Fortune commentary on Sweden
In 2025, he is announced as a speaker at the Sana AI Summit 2025 in Stockholm, with the title Chief Scientist, Sana. In January 2026, he writes the Fortune commentary "Meet Sweden, the unicorn factory chasing America in the AI race", signed as Chief Scientist at Sana, which notes that Workday has acquired Sana for $1.1 billion.
