Lab leader

Luciano Del Corro

Luciano Del Corro is an AI researcher whose work spans information extraction, financial-news relevance, OCR correction and language models. He coauthored ClausIE and MinIE, then developed methods for scoring financial news and correcting post-OCR text. At Microsoft Research, he worked as a Senior Research Engineer and coauthored Orca 2. He also coauthored AgentInstruct, an agentic framework for language-model training data. He is an Associate Professor at Universidad de San Andrés and directs ELIAS Lab; earlier, he led NLP work at Goldman Sachs and co-founded Ambiverse.

Timeline

  1. 2013

    ClausIE for open information extraction

In 2013, he coauthors ClausIE with Rainer Gemulla, an open information extractor that identifies relations and their arguments in natural-language text.

  2. 2017

    Compact extractions with MinIE

In 2017, he coauthors MinIE, an open-information extraction system designed to produce useful, compact extractions with high precision and recall.

  3. 2020

    Scoring financial news with attention

In 2020, he and Johannes Hoffart repurpose the attention weights of a stock-price prediction network to score each news headline for financial relevance without manual labels.

  4. 2021

    Correcting post-OCR text

In 2021, he and Harsh Gupta test whether pretrained language models can combine different OCR views of a document to reduce errors; their evaluation finds up to 15% word-error-rate improvement over the best OCR view.

  5. November 2023

    Orca 2 and smaller models

In November 2023, he is a Senior Research Engineer at Microsoft Research and coauthors Orca 2, which teaches smaller language models to choose different reasoning strategies for different tasks.

  6. July 2024

    AgentInstruct for model training

In July 2024, he coauthors AgentInstruct, an agentic framework that creates prompts and responses from raw text and code for language-model post-training.

  7. By 2026

    Goldman Sachs and Ambiverse

By 2026, his career includes a Lead AI Research Scientist role at Goldman Sachs, where he applies NLP to financial and legal cases, and co-founding Ambiverse, a Max Planck Institute spin-off.

  8. As of October 2026

    Associate Professor and Lab Director

As of October 2026, he is an Associate Professor at Universidad de San Andrés and directs ELIAS Lab, which works on efficient language models and agentic AI.
