Daniele De Martini
Daniele De Martini is an Oxford roboticist whose AI research includes radar localisation and camera-network robot control. His background spans mechanical and mechatronics engineering, and he earned a PhD from the University of Pavia on real-time scheduling and energy management in cyber-physical systems. He joined Oxford's Mobile Robotics Group as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in 2018, became a departmental lecturer in 2023, and had an Associate Professor appointment announced by Oxford in October 2025. He coauthored kRadar++, Robot-Relay and OORD, an off-road radar dataset from the Scottish Highlands. He is Associate Professor in Mobile Robotics at Oxford and co-leads the Mobile Robotics Group with Paul Newman.

Engineering and a Pavia PhD
His background spans mechanical and mechatronics engineering, and he has a PhD from the University of Pavia. His doctoral research explores real-time scheduling and energy management in cyber-physical systems; he joins Oxford's Mobile Robotics Group as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in 2018.
-
2020
A two-stage radar localiser
In 2020, he coauthors kRadar++, a two-stage FMCW radar-localisation system that combines radar place recognition with precise pose estimation for autonomous navigation.
-
2022–2023
Lectureships at Oxford and Pembroke
In 2022, he joins Pembroke College as a part-time Stipendiary College Lecturer. From 2023, he works as Departmental Lecturer in Mobile Robotics at Oxford.
-
2023–2025
Robot-Relay across camera networks
In 2023, he coauthors Robot-Relay, which learns connections among camera viewpoints so a mobile robot can traverse connected workspaces without prior camera-position data. The work appears in Autonomous Robots in 2025.
-
2024
The Oxford Offroad Radar Dataset
In 2024, he coauthors OORD, an off-road radar dataset from the Scottish Highlands. It releases over 90 GiB of radar scans with GPS and IMU readings from four routes across 11 forays, totalling about 154 km of rugged driving.
-
October 2025
An associate professorship
In October 2025, Oxford announces that he has been appointed Associate Professor.
-
As of October 2026
Co-leading Oxford's Mobile Robotics Group
As of October 2026, he is Associate Professor in Mobile Robotics at the Oxford Robotics Institute and Oxford e-Research Centre and co-leads the Mobile Robotics Group with Paul Newman. His research combines robotics and AI for autonomous perception, mapping, localisation and adaptive decision-making. An Oxford article from January 2026 reports that his group tests multi-robot, multi-camera setups in a warehouse near Oxford.
