Dandan Qiao
Also known as Qiao Dandan
Dandan Qiao is an information systems researcher whose work examines AI’s effects on online labor, language-model training, and marketing design. She earned a PhD in information systems at Tsinghua and spent two years as a research scholar at UT Austin before joining NUS, where she studied paid Amazon reviews. Her 2023 study found that ChatGPT increased work volume and earnings in web development, and her 2024 paper found that training with LLM-generated data harmed model performance. She coauthored a theory-driven system for marketing images and received the ISS Gordon Davis Young Scholar Award in 2023 and the AIS Early Career Award in 2024. As of October 2026, she is an associate professor at NUS; she became an associate editor at MIS Quarterly in January 2026 and contributed as a CSSH deputy director to a public-personas policy project in March 2026.

The paper finds increased work volume and earnings in web development, and she receives the ISS Gordon Davis Young Scholar Award in 2023.
-
2024
Regurgitative Training, AIS award
In 2024, she coauthors “Regurgitative Training: The Value of Real Data in Training Large Language Models,” which tests fine-tuning GPT-3.5 with data generated by itself or other LLMs. The authors find that this training harms language-model performance, and she receives the AIS Early Career Award in 2024.
