Archana Warrier

Archana Warrier is an AI researcher whose work spans Bayesian inference, model learning, and collaborative AI. She earned a BSc in Mathematics and Computing at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and completed an MS in Computer Science at RPTU Kaiserslautern in 2025. She builds counterfactual-fairness software through Google Summer of Code, develops model abstractions at Columbia, and studies Bayesian machine learning at DFKI. At Basis, she joins Project MARA in August 2024, then presents AutumnBench at ICML 2025 and coauthors WorldTest, published in the 2026 ICML proceedings. Since July 2026, she is a PhD student at TU Darmstadt, advised by Angela Yu, studying how agents model collaborators' goals, beliefs, and abilities.

Timeline

  1. 2018–2021

    A mathematics degree

She completes a BSc in Mathematics and Computing at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, in 2021.

  2. 2021

    Counterfactual fairness software

In 2021, she works as a student developer for Google Summer of Code and builds CounterfactualFairness.jl, a Julia package for counterfactual reasoning and algorithmic fairness.

  3. 2022–2025

    An MS in computer science

She completes an MS in Computer Science at Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (RPTU) in 2025, after starting the program in 2022.

  4. 2022–2024

    Research assistant at DFKI

From 2022 to 2024, she works as a research assistant in DFKI's Vollmer group in Kaiserslautern, studying causality, probabilistic inference, and Bayesian machine learning. In 2024, she coauthors a paper that tests large language models for quantitative knowledge retrieval, including Bayesian prior elicitation and missing-data imputation.

  5. 2022–2023

    Research scholar at Columbia

She holds short-term research scholar appointments at Columbia University in 2022 and 2023. Her work includes Parametric Inversion in JAX, which uses parameters to uniquely identify inputs to non-injective functions, and a framework that builds simplified model abstractions within resource limits.

  6. 2024–2025

    Research trainee at Basis

From 2024 to 2025, she works as a research trainee at Basis in New York, advised by Zenna Tavares. In August 2024, she starts contributing to Project MARA, which aims to build AI systems for everyday scientific discovery through active experimentation and abstract reasoning.

  7. 2025–2026

    AutumnBench and WorldTest

She presents an AutumnBench poster at the World Model Learning Workshop at ICML 2025 in Vancouver. She coauthors Benchmarking World-Model Learning with Environment-Level Queries, which introduces WorldTest to test whether agents learn models that support queries about full environments. The paper is accepted at ICML in April 2026 and appears in the 2026 proceedings; AutumnBench contains 43 interactive grid-world environments and 129 tasks.

  8. Since July 2026

    PhD in collaborative AI

Since July 2026, she is a PhD student at TU Darmstadt, advised by Angela Yu in the Computational Modelling of Intelligent Systems lab. She studies how agents model collaborators' goals, beliefs, and abilities and update those models through interaction.
