Aravindan Raghuveer
Aravindan Raghuveer is a computer scientist whose AI work spans video systems, multilingual language technology and machine learning. He earned a B.E. in computer science from the University of Madras in 2001 and an M.S. in computer engineering from Minnesota in 2003, where he pursued a Ph.D. in computer science. His papers covered peer-to-peer video streaming, mobile purchase recommendations, controllable Hindi-English text, and learning from aggregate labels to sentence-level feedback for language models. Before Google Research, he worked as a Research Scientist at Facebook and a Principal Research Engineer at Yahoo Labs. As of October 2026, he is a Principal Engineer at Google DeepMind, Adjunct Faculty at Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, and Associate Research Fellow at RBCDSAI.

Timeline
-
2001
A computer science degree
He earns a B.E. in computer science from the University of Madras in 2001.
-
2003
Graduate study at Minnesota
In 2003, he earns an M.S. in computer engineering from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where he pursues a Ph.D. in computer science.
-
2010
StatStream for video streaming
In 2010, he coauthors StatStream, a peer-to-peer streaming framework that quantifies video quality and stability and uses graph-construction algorithms to provide statistical guarantees.
-
2018
Mobile purchase recommendations
In 2018, he coauthors the SIGIR paper Modeling Mobile User Actions for Purchase Recommendation using Deep Memory Networks. Before Google Research, he works as a Research Scientist at Facebook and a Principal Research Engineer at Yahoo Labs.
-
2022
CoCoa for code-switching
He coauthors CoCoa, an encoder-decoder model that converts monolingual Hindi text to Hindi-English code-switched text with fine-grained control over code-switching and formality. The paper reports a 10% reduction in perplexity on a language-modeling task.
-
2024
Generalization in multiple instance regression
In 2024, he coauthors work proving generalization error bounds for multiple instance regression when bags are drawn independently at random. The study also analyzes regression hardness and reports tests on overlapping bags using synthetic and real-world data.
-
2025
FRACTAL for sentence-level scoring
In 2025, he coauthors FRACTAL, a model suite that converts response-level labels into sentence-level scores for language-model optimization using multiple-instance learning and learning from label proportions.
-
As of October 2026
Principal Engineer at Google DeepMind
He is a Principal Engineer at Google DeepMind, Adjunct Faculty at the Wadhwani School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and an Associate Research Fellow at RBCDSAI.
