Researcher

Andrew S. Rosen

Andrew S. Rosen is a chemical engineer whose research uses machine learning and quantum chemistry to study solid-state materials. He earned a B.S. in chemical engineering at Tufts in 2015 and a Ph.D. at Northwestern in 2021; he was lead author of research on machine-learning prediction for metal–organic frameworks. At UC Berkeley, he held a Miller Research Fellowship in Kristin Persson’s group before starting his faculty career at Princeton in 2024. As of October 2026, he is an assistant professor who leads a group developing computational tools for materials science.

Timeline

  1. 2015–2021

    Chemical engineering degrees

He earns a B.S. in chemical engineering at Tufts in 2015 and a Ph.D. in the field at Northwestern in 2021.

  2. 2021

    Machine learning for MOFs

In 2021, he is lead author of “Machine Learning the Quantum-Chemical Properties of Metal–Organic Frameworks for Accelerated Materials Discovery”; the team's algorithm predicts MOF electronic properties from a chemical structure in a fraction of a second.

  3. 2021–2024

    Miller fellowship at Berkeley

From 2021 to 2024, he is a Miller Research Fellow at UC Berkeley. He joins Kristin Persson’s group after doctoral research on metal–organic frameworks at Northwestern.

  4. December 2023

    An atomistic foundation model

In a preprint first submitted in December 2023, he coauthors “A foundation model for atomistic materials chemistry,” which describes a general-purpose atomistic machine-learning model for stable molecular dynamics across molecules and materials.

  5. Since 2024

    Professor at Princeton

His faculty career starts at Princeton in 2024, where he is an assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering. In September 2026, he coauthors a paper presenting the Quantum Accelerator (QuAcc), an open-source workflow library for atomistic simulations with an emphasis on quantum-mechanical calculations. As of October 2026, he leads the Rosen Research Group, which uses high-throughput computing, machine learning and quantum-chemical simulations to design materials and study their stability.
