Andrew Russell

Andrew Russell is an NVIDIA software engineer whose AI work connects neural radiance fields with real-time light-field displays. He grew up in Jamaica, studied at MIT, and worked on display systems at Texas Instruments, Syndiant, Google, and Magic Leap. At NVIDIA, he combines AI with signal processing for image rendering and co-invents virtual-reality and neural-rendering systems. His coauthored G2LF work supports more than 200 frames per second across 45 display views. As of October 2026, he works at NVIDIA on real-time radiance-field graphics.

Timeline

  1. By 2022

    MIT and display engineering

He grows up in Jamaica and studies at MIT for undergraduate and doctoral degrees. His work spans DLP displays at Texas Instruments, LCOS displays at Syndiant, Google's Project Starline autostereoscopic display for 3D video conferencing, and AR display integration at Magic Leap. By 2022, he is a principal software engineer at NVIDIA, where he combines AI with signal processing for image rendering.

  2. 2024

    A mixed-reality patent

A 2024 NVIDIA patent application names Russell with four other inventors on a teleportation system that combines virtual and augmented reality.

  3. 2025

    Rendering neural radiance fields

He co-invents a 2025 patent application for fast light-field rendering from neural radiance fields.

  4. August 2025–July 2026

    Real-time radiance-field rendering

In August 2025, Russell and eight coauthors submit a paper on real-time radiance-field rendering for light-field displays; NVIDIA lists it for HPG 2026. Their method supports NeRFs, 3D Gaussian Splatting, and sparse voxels, and reaches 200+ FPS at 512p across 45 views. NVlabs supplies the paper's G2LF OpenGL/CUDA reference renderer, which uses a single plane-sweep pass.

  5. As of October 2026

    NVIDIA graphics research

He works at NVIDIA on graphics research and coauthors its 2026 HPG paper about real-time radiance-field rendering for light-field displays.
