Andrew Beam

Also known as Andy Beam

Andrew Beam is an AI researcher and epidemiologist whose machine-learning work spans medicine and scientific discovery. He earned a PhD at NC State in 2014 for Bayesian neural-network research and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in biomedical informatics at Harvard Medical School. In 2019, as a Harvard Medical School research associate, he helped develop a neural network for medical questions and joined Harvard Chan as an assistant professor. Generate:Biomedicines identified him as its founding head of machine learning by May 2022, and he served as co-deputy editor of NEJM AI and co-host of its Grand Rounds podcast in 2023. He coauthored NeoCLIP and entered NC State's Computer Science Alumni Hall of Fame in 2025; as of October 2026, he is CTO of Lila Sciences and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Harvard Chan.
