Abhishek Das

Abhishek Das is an AI researcher and entrepreneur whose work spans visual dialogue, embodied agents, image explanations, catalyst models, and computer-use agents. He earned a bachelor's at IIT Roorkee and pursued a PhD at Georgia Tech from 2016 to 2020, working on visual dialogue and embodied question answering. His PhD thesis was a runner-up for the 2020 AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award, and he coauthored Grad-CAM, a method for explaining image model predictions. At Meta's FAIR, he helped start the Open Catalyst Project and coauthored the 2020 OC20 dataset paper for catalyst research. By June 2025, he had left FAIR to co-found Yutori; as of October 2026, he is its Co-Founder and Co-CEO, and the company builds computer-use agents for the web.

Timeline

  1. 2016–2020

    IIT Roorkee and Georgia Tech

He earns a bachelor's at IIT Roorkee before pursuing a PhD at Georgia Tech from 2016 to 2020.

  2. 2017

    Learning visual dialogue agents

In 2017, he coauthors “Learning Cooperative Visual Dialog Agents with Deep Reinforcement Learning,” which trains visual question-answering and dialog agents using deep reinforcement learning.

  3. 2017–2019

    Grad-CAM for image explanations

He coauthors Grad-CAM, a method that uses gradients to highlight image regions relevant to a model's prediction. The paper appears at ICCV in 2017 and in International Journal of Computer Vision in 2019.

  4. 2018–2019

    Embodied question answering

In 2018, his Embodied Question Answering work is presented at CVPR; the agent navigates a simulated environment and gathers visual information before answering a question. In 2019, he spends a semester at DeepMind in London after three internships at Facebook AI Research.

  5. 2020

    The Open Catalyst Project

At Meta's FAIR, he helps start the Open Catalyst Project to accelerate electrocatalyst discovery. In 2020, he coauthors the OC20 dataset paper, which introduces 1,281,040 density-functional-theory relaxations for machine-learning catalyst research.

  6. 2020

    An AI dissertation runner-up

His PhD thesis earns runner-up recognition for the 2020 AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award.

  7. By June 2025

    Launching Yutori

By June 2025, he is a Yutori co-founder and a former research scientist at Meta's FAIR. The company debuts a web agent for everyday digital tasks.

  8. As of October 2026

    Co-leading Yutori

As of October 2026, he is Yutori's Co-Founder and Co-CEO; the company builds computer-use agents that browse and act on the web.
