Tomas Lozano-Perez
Tomas Lozano-Perez researches robotics, vision and machine learning. His work integrates high-level task choices with physical motion and decision-theoretic planning. He earned a computer-science bachelor’s degree in 1973, a master’s in 1976 and a doctorate in 1980 at MIT. He received the 2021 IEEE Robotics and Automation Award, following earlier recognition for robotics research. His contributions include motion planning, object recognition and multiple-instance learning. Lozano-Perez and Leslie Kaelbling lead research on task and motion planning. It develops algorithms for reasoning together about task actions and low-level motions in human environments.
