Rong Qu
Rong Qu is a professor of computer science at the University of Nottingham, where her research covers hyper-heuristics, automated algorithm design and machine learning. At Nottingham she completed her PhD in 2002 and later rose from lecturer to professor. Her 2007 paper on a graph-based hyper-heuristic for educational timetabling won an EJOR five-year top-cited article award for 2007–2011. She coauthored two Springer books on hyper-heuristics, Hyper-Heuristics: Theory and Applications in 2018 and Advances in Hyper-Heuristics in 2025. The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society named her to the 2026 class of IEEE Fellows for contributions to automated evolutionary algorithms in combinatorial optimisation.
