Rajat Monga

Rajat Monga is a corporate vice president at Microsoft, where he is responsible for enabling an efficient AI stack from cloud to edge. From 2009 to 2019 he worked at Google, where he co-founded and led TensorFlow. He co-authored Large Scale Distributed Deep Networks, published at NIPS 2012, and the TensorFlow system paper published at OSDI 2016. Between 2020 and 2023 he was co-founder and CEO of Inference.io, an analytics platform powered by AI. In 2022 ICML gave its Test of Time honorable mention to a paper he co-authored, Building high-level features using large scale unsupervised learning.

  1. 1992–1996

    A BTech at IIT Delhi

    He studies for a BTech at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, from 1992 to 1996.

  2. 2009–2019

    Co-founding TensorFlow at Google

    At Google from 2009 to 2019, he is a founding member of Google Brain and co-founds and leads TensorFlow.

  3. 2012

    Large scale distributed deep networks

    In 2012 he co-authors Large Scale Distributed Deep Networks, published in the NIPS 2012 proceedings.

  4. 2016

    The TensorFlow system paper

    In 2016 he manages the TensorFlow engineering team as a director of engineering at Google, and he co-authors the TensorFlow system paper published at OSDI 2016.

  5. 2020–2023

    Co-founding Inference.io

    Between 2020 and 2023 he serves as co-founder and CEO of Inference.io, a smart analytics platform powered by AI.

  6. 2022

    An ICML honorable mention

    In 2022 ICML gives its Test of Time honorable mention to Building high-level features using large scale unsupervised learning, a paper he co-authors.

  7. Since 2023

    Corporate vice president at Microsoft

    He joins Microsoft in 2023 as corporate vice president of AI Frameworks, responsible for enabling an efficient AI stack from cloud to edge.

  8. April 2026

    Back at Microsoft

    In April 2026 he is corporate vice president of AI Frameworks at Microsoft, after running Inference.io as its founder and CEO.
