Nikhil Garg
Nikhil Garg is a Cornell operations researcher who applies algorithms and data science to public-interest AI and social systems. He earned a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in 2015, completed an M.S. and Ph.D. at Stanford in 2020, and coauthored a 2018 paper that used word embeddings to study gender and ethnic stereotypes. In 2020, he led data science at PredictWise during the U.S. election cycle, won the INFORMS George Dantzig Dissertation Award, and placed second in the M&SOM Student Paper Award. He held a postdoctoral appointment at UC Berkeley EECS, with a Cornell Tech assistant professor appointment planned to start in July 2021; Forbes named him to its 30 Under 30 list in Science in 2022. He received an NSF CAREER Award in September 2024 and served as an EAAMO program chair in 2025; as of October 2026, he is an assistant professor of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell Tech.
