Moritz Hardt
Moritz Hardt studies machine learning and algorithmic decision-making with a focus on social questions. His work includes fairness, prediction and research benchmarks. Hardt worked full time at IBM from 2013 to 2015 and Google from 2015 to 2017. He also held a Berkeley associate professorship before joining Max Planck. Hardt coauthored Equality of Opportunity in Supervised Learning with Eric Price and Nathan Srebro. The original paper studies a fairness criterion for predictions and methods for meeting it under specified conditions. Hardt coauthored Performative Prediction. The paper studies settings where deploying predictions changes the data-generating process, linking statistical learning to the effects of decisions.
