Mor Nitzan
Mor Nitzan trained in physics and computational biology at Hebrew University. She later worked at Hebrew University, the Broad Institute, and Harvard. Her group develops methods for studying biological networks, single-cell identities, and collective behaviour. In a manuscript submitted in 2023, she co-authored a physically informed deep learning method for classifying dynamical regimes and locating changes in their behaviour. Nitzan holds an interdisciplinary faculty role at Hebrew University spanning computer science, physics, and medicine.

Timeline
-
Earlier career
Physics and computational biology
Nitzan earned a doctorate in physics and computational biology at Hebrew University. Her supervisors were Hanah Margalit and Ofer Biham. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Hebrew University and the Broad Institute with Nir Friedman and Aviv Regev.
-
Earlier career
Interdisciplinary research
She held fellowships at Harvard and an interdisciplinary role at Hebrew University across computer science, physics, and medicine. Her group studies how single-cell identities and interactions connect to larger biological structures. The methods include optimisation, graph theory, and machine learning.

Learning the behaviour of dynamic systems
Nitzan co-authored a paper with Noa Moriel and Matthew Ricci, first submitted in December 2023. The paper proposes a physically informed deep learning framework for classifying dynamical regimes and locating bifurcation boundaries. A bifurcation is a qualitative change in a system’s behaviour.

A connection to cell development
The authors use convolutional attention and data augmentation to learn topological features. Their reported examples include gene expression data during pancreatic cell development. This illustrates how mathematical and learned representations can help analyse biological dynamics.
