Li Deng
Also known as Deng Li
Li Deng is a researcher and AI executive who helped bring deep neural networks into speech recognition. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin at Madison from 1982 to 1987, then left the University of Waterloo to join Microsoft in 2000. The ISCA named him a Fellow in 2011, and the IEEE Signal Processing Society honored him with a Technical Achievement Award in 2015 and an Industrial Leader Award in 2019. In May 2017, the hedge fund Citadel hired him as chief AI officer. He is chief artificial intelligence officer at Vatic Investments, a post he took up in 2022.
