Kyogu Lee

Kyogu Lee is a professor at Seoul National University whose research spans machine listening, music retrieval, and source separation. He studied electrical engineering and music technology, earned a Stanford doctorate in computer-based music theory and acoustics, and worked at Gracenote before joining SNU in 2009. With Yoonchang Han and Jaehun Kim, he coauthored a convolutional neural network framework for instrument recognition and founded Supertone in 2020 to develop AI audio solutions. TIME included him in its 2024 TIME100 AI list. In July 2025, he demonstrated Supertone's voice tools at Fortune Brainstorm AI Singapore and served as the company's co-founder and CEO.

Degrees and Gracenote research
He earns a B.S. in electrical engineering at Seoul National University in 1996 and an M.M. in music technology at New York University in 2002. At Stanford, he earns an M.S. in electrical engineering in 2006 and a Ph.D. in computer-based music theory and acoustics in 2008. He works as a senior researcher at Gracenote from 2007 to 2009 and joins SNU's faculty in 2009.
