John Jumper
John Jumper is a research leader at Google DeepMind and a co-recipient of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He trained in physics before working on protein simulation and earning a chemistry doctorate at the University of Chicago in 2017. He joined DeepMind that year. His team’s AlphaFold work predicted protein structures in the CASP14 blind test in 2020. The team later released code and worked with EMBL-EBI on a large public database of predicted structures. Jumper also co-authored AlphaFold 3, which models molecular interactions. The Nobel committee shared the protein prediction half of the prize between Jumper and Demis Hassabis; David Baker received the other half for computational protein design.
