Julian Togelius

As of October 2026, Julian Togelius is a professor at New York University, and he will join Chalmers University of Technology at the end of the year. His work centers on procedural content generation and artificial intelligence in video games, the field the IEEE cited when it named him a Fellow. Lund University gave him a philosophy degree, and Essex gave him a PhD in 2007. After a post at the IT University of Copenhagen, he moved to NYU, and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society gave him its Outstanding Early Career Award in 2020. He was appointed honorary doctor at Malmö University in September 2025, and he was named to Unity's AI Advisory Council later that month.
