John E. Hopcroft
Also known as John Hopcroft, John Edward Hopcroft
John Hopcroft is a computer scientist at Cornell University whose AI connections run through machine learning and generative models. He studied electrical engineering at Seattle University and Stanford before joining Cornell's faculty in 1967. He shared the 1986 Turing Award with Robert Tarjan, and the National Academy of Engineering elected him in 1989. In 2017 he co-authored Stacked Generative Adversarial Networks, and his book Foundations of Data Science, written with Avrim Blum and Ravindran Kannan, covers machine learning. In July 2025 Jiangsu University named him an honorary professor, and he is professor emeritus at Cornell University.
