Jiwen Lu
Also known as Ji-Wen Lu, Lu Jiwen
Jiwen Lu is a computer-vision researcher whose work includes human action recognition. He earned mechanical and electrical engineering degrees at Xi’an University of Technology in 2003 and 2006, then a Ph.D. at Nanyang Technological University in 2011; he worked at Singapore’s Advanced Digital Sciences Center and received the PREMIA Best Student Paper Award for a 2011 ICCV paper in 2012. His later work includes the FLAG3D fitness-activity dataset and the 2025 textbook Computer Vision. He became an IAPR Fellow in 2020 and an IEEE Fellow in 2024, and he has served as a Senior Area Editor for IEEE’s Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology since 2025. As of October 2026, he is a tenured professor and Deputy Head of Tsinghua’s Department of Automation.

Engineering degrees and a paper award
At Xi’an University of Technology, he earns a B.Eng. in mechanical engineering in 2003 and an M.Eng. in electrical engineering in 2006; he completes a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Nanyang Technological University in 2011. In 2012, while a researcher at Singapore’s Advanced Digital Sciences Center, he receives the PREMIA Best Student Paper Award for a paper published at the 2011 International Conference on Computer Vision.

The FLAG3D dataset
In December 2022, he coauthors the arXiv paper FLAG3D, a 3D fitness-activity dataset with 180,000 sequences across 60 categories. The dataset supports research in cross-domain human action recognition, dynamic human mesh recovery, and language-guided action generation.

A computer-vision textbook
In September 2025, he coauthors Tsinghua University Press’s textbook Computer Vision with Yueqi Duan, Yansong Tang, and Lei Chen. The book introduces image representation learning and covers 2D, 3D, and video vision.
