Guang-Zhong Yang
Also known as Guang‐Zhong Yang
Guang-Zhong Yang is a researcher in biomedical imaging and robotics whose work on computational vision and perceptual intelligence brings learning into robotic control. He earned a bachelor's degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a PhD in computer science at Imperial College London before working as a principal scientist at Royal Brompton Hospital from 1991 to 1999. He founded the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery at Imperial College, and in 1996 the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine honoured him for cardiovascular magnetic resonance flow imaging. Imperial College announced his appointment as Editor of Science Robotics in January 2016, and the 2017 New Year Honours gave him a CBE for biomedical engineering. As of October 2026, he is a chair professor and the founding dean of the Institute of Medical Robotics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
