Researcher

Gerard Pons-Moll

Gerard Pons-Moll studies the meeting point of computer vision, graphics and machine learning. His work models human pose, shape, soft tissue and clothing from visual and motion-sensor data. He earned a doctorate from Hannover in February 2014. The thesis addressed human-pose estimation from video and inertial sensors. He received an Emmy Noether grant in 2018. His research programme develops statistical human-body models and algorithms to track and reconstruct people from images, video, depth measurements and inertial sensors. The laboratory announced in October 2025 that Pons-Moll and coauthors had received the PAMI Mark Everingham Prize for SMPL. It names Pons-Moll with co-authors Michael Black, Matthew Loper, Naureen Mahmood and Javier Romero.
