Gérard G. Medioni
Also known as Gerard G. Medioni
Gérard G. Medioni researches computer vision, geometric representation and object matching. He received an engineering diploma in 1977 and a USC doctorate in 1983. He chaired the department from 2001 to 2007 at USC, and AAAI elected him a Fellow in 2004. His shared tensor-voting paper appeared in 2012, with an archive version and addendum in 2016. The work studies geometric structure and outliers in vision data.
Timeline
-
1977–1983
Engineering and doctoral study
Medioni earned an engineering diploma in Paris in 1977 and a USC doctorate in 1983. His research asks how descriptions of objects can be inferred from images and how imperfect vision modules can be combined into reliable systems. These questions define his computer-vision research program.
-
2001–2007
Research and academic service
Medioni chaired USC’s computer-science department from 2001 to 2007. AAAI elected him a Fellow in 2004.
-
2012
A shared tensor-voting result
Medioni coauthored A Closed-Form Solution to Tensor Voting with Tai-Pang Wu, Sai-Kit Yeung, Jiaya Jia and Chi-Keung Tang. The journal paper appeared in 2012. Its abstract describes a structure-aware tensor for detecting salient structure and reducing the influence of outliers.
-
2016 archive version
An expanded archive version
The authors deposited an expanded archive version in January 2016 with an addendum. Its abstract describes convergence and parameter-estimation methods, tested on multiview stereo matching.
