Emily Fox
Also known as Emily B. Fox, Emily Beth Fox
Emily Fox is a professor of statistics and computer science at Stanford, where her research applies large-scale Bayesian dynamic modeling to health and computational neuroscience. She earned an S.B. in 2004 and a Ph.D. at MIT in 2009, then joined the University of Washington in 2012 as an Amazon machine learning assistant professor. In June 2014 she co-authored Stochastic Gradient Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, a sampling method, with Tianqi Chen and Carlos Guestrin. She received a Sloan Research Fellowship in 2015 and the Presidential Early Career Award in 2017, and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics named her a Fellow in 2024. As of October 2026, she is chief technical advisor for AI and machine learning at insitro, which she joined as senior vice president in 2024.
